by Ruth silver

In the future dystopian society of Cabal, the government instills equality for all and offers its citizens the perfect system. There is food, shelter and jobs for everyone. The one requirement is to follow the rules without question, including the government’s match in marriage and “The Day of the Chosen”, a lottery that randomly selects families to conceive children as natural means hasn’t existed in generations. Following her eighteenth birthday, Olivia Parker accepts her requirement to marry her childhood best friend, Joshua Warren, and is eager to start her work assignment and new life when it all comes abruptly to an end as she’s arrested and thrown in prison. The only crime committed, her existence. Olivia is unlike the rest of the world born not from “The Day of the Chosen.” The truth haunts the government and puts her life in grave danger as one simple fact would destroy the perfect system.

With Joshua’s help, Olivia breaks free of prison and is forced on the run. Together they set out to find the promised rebel town in search of a new home and new life together. Their situation seems less than promising as they reach the town of Haven. New rules and customs must be adhered to in order to stay. Leaving would mean most certain death in the large expanse of the Gravelands. Time is running out as the government mounts an attack to destroy Olivia and bury her secret with her. Thrown into a world unlike their own, they must quickly adapt to survive.

My Thoughts:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I have to say that Ruth Silver had made me fall in love with Olivia she is a strong female lead. Your brought into a world that seems to be fair and just but then your left wondering if it really is. When Olivia turns eighteen she gets to marry her best friend but that happiness is short-lived when Olivia is arrested. This brings Olivia and her new husband on a crazy adventure. I have to say this story keeps you entertained the whole time your reading. Ruth Silver where you think that all of the mains problems will finally be over then you find that’s not the case. As the story unfolds your brought into a world that leaves you wanting more. You have a million questions and slowly you begin to learn the answers only to be left with more questions.

My over all thoughts about this novel are that it is worth the read. I love seeing Oliva go from being a scared little girl to a courageous woman. She learns that she’s strong enough to do what she needs to do for the ones she loves and to possible give the world something they thought was lost forever. This is a novel that shows you can over come almost anything and when in a tough place you will do what ever it takes to protect the person or people you love. I loved every moment reading this book. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good book.

5/5

The Summer I Found You (120)

16094953The Summer I Found You(ARC)

By Jolene Perry

Release Date: March 1,2014

All they have in common is that they’re less than perfect. And all they’re looking for is the perfect distraction.

Kate’s dream boyfriend has just broken up with her and she’s still reeling from her diagnosis of type 1 diabetes.  Aidan planned on being a lifer in the army and went to Afghanistan straight out of high school. Now he’s a disabled young veteran struggling to embrace his new life. When Kate and Aidan find each other neither one wants to get  attached. But could they be right for each other after all?

My Thoughts:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from netgalley. This book is beautiful from the beginning. I know some people when they read this novel will think how could you say that but it is. It’s a tragic beauty at least in the beginning. You have two main characters who are living in their own personal hells. They are both re-learning how to live their lives after  going through some drastic changes. I loved this book simply because you get to see an unexpected romance grow with two people you would have never thought would find each other. I loved reading this novel because it shows you how hard it is on people to change their lives and something as simple as feeling normal can be taken for granted. This novel is beautiful and worth reading over and over again. This is definitely a book i would recommend for anyone of any age. I plan on adding it to my library as soon as it is released. So if you have a chance and enjoy a good story you should definitely pick it up.

Happy Reading

Daughter of Smoke & Bone: Daughter of Smoke & Bones, Book 1 (119)

13528340Daughter of Smoke & Bone

By Laini Taylor

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages–not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers–beautiful, haunted Akiva–fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Thoughts:

I will put this simply so that you can understand how i feel at the end of this book.

WHY???

I know your thinking why are I am screaming why and the answer is simple. I finished the book. I wish it wasnt over. The good news is there is a book two and I plan on acquiring it as soon as possible its a must have for me. I suppose that i should now give you a review of this novel but the problem is i have no words. There is not one thing i could say about this book that would give it justice. How do i put into words the beautiful world that Lani Taylor created in Daughter of Smoke & Bone. I was left in shock never thinking that things would end as they did. This novel puts a wonderful twist on angels and demons( if you choose to call them that.) It is jut wow. I love Karou. She leaves you thinking wow you’re a kick butt chick. She grew up in two worlds never knowing who she truly was. Then to finally find out and have it all feel worthless. Well that’s how i felt. The point is this book is beautiful in its own sweet wonderful complicated way. It leaves you wanting more. I feel as though i will not be complete until I Finish book two and book three comes out. If you have yet to read this series you are missing out and should start it as soon as you can.

First Frost: a Mythos Academy Novel, Book .5 (118)

11763146First Frost: A Mythos Academy Novel, Book 0.5

By Jennifer Estep

Released: July 1st, 2011

I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift.  It’s called psychometry – that’s a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people’s memories off almost everything I touch, even guys.

My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy–to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don’t want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school – Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren’t preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos.  Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids.  The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same.  .  .

My Thoughts:

As many of you know I have a love hate relationship with the mythos academy series. I have read almost all the books I believe I have two short stories left and one novel to be caught up until the newest book in the series is released. Any who back to my review. First frost by Jennifer Estep is a great short story. I’ve always wanted to know the back story for Gwen and what happened to her mom before you find out the truth in the series. Thankfully Jennifer Estep chose to write the story. So I couldn’t help but want to read this book. I love that Gwen has always been her sassy self and is a true comic book nerd always. I think my favorite part of this novel was the ending when you see that Logan aka Hot Spartan has been eyeing Gwen since the first day she stepped on to campus. In conclusion if you are a fan of the series you should pick it up well I guess download since it is only in Ebook format that I know of. Any ways It was a fun quick read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
